Developing Health Behavior Change Solutions for On-Site Employee Health Clinics

Promoting behavior change plays a crucial role in the success of on-site employee health clinics. This workshop will outline the Transtheoretical (Stages of Change) Model and provide attendees with specific examples of how best practices of behavior change from this leading theory can be seamlessly integrated into the workflow of on-site clinicians to enhance engagement and outcomes.

This workshop will also discuss strategies for integrating behavior change interventions and communications that occur outside the clinic (e.g., health coaching, outbound communications, incentives) with the clinic EMR to create additional value.

About the Workshop Leader:
Sara Johnson, PhD is the Senior Vice President of Research & Product Development at Pro-Change Behavior Systems, Inc. Within this role, Sara leads business development and strategy initiatives for Pro-Change Behavior Systems. She has also been instrumental in the implementation of innovative research and development opportunities related to Pro-Change’s LifeStyle Management Suite and Coaching Programs. Sara brings to her role over 16 years of experience developing health behavior change solutions in a variety of domains, including weight management, smoking cessation, and medication adherence.

She has been the principal investigator on over $4.7 million in National Institutes of Health grants to examine the effectiveness of tailored, Transtheoretical Model-based interventions. In addition, she has led teams on numerous privately-funded initiatives, including outlining best practices in health communication; improving health coaching; and applying the Transtheoretical Model to novel areas such as promoting financially responsible use of health services and gaming for health.

Sara received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Rhode Island and is currently an adjunct faculty member to the Psychology Department. She has nearly 40 publications including refereed research publications, book chapters, and published reports.

How to Measure and Maximize the ROI of On-Site Health Clinics – Demonstrating Value to its Business Leaders

This workshop will provide attendees with the tools necessary to build the financial business case for implementing an on-site health clinic as well as for measuring ongoing return on investment. We will discuss how you can use a return on investment model to prioritize and develop a scope of services and staffing model for an on-site clinic.

This workshop will also discuss methods for determining the value of onsite health clinics that are non-financial in nature. The session will conclude with a model for developing a scorecard to share with key stakeholders.

Some topics to be examined include:
• Develop a model for projecting initial return on investment of onsite health clinics
• Develop an understanding of non-financial measures of value of on-site health clinics such as improved health outcomes
Develop a framework for establishing a dynamic scorecard for measuring on-site health clinic value

About the Workshop Leaders:
Polly Thomas serves as the Director of On-Site Clinic Services for CBIZ Benefits & Insurance Services, Inc. Polly created and leads CBIZ Benefits & Insurance Services, Inc.’s national on-site clinic practice. She integrates her on-site clinic expertise into long-term health and wellness strategies using an array of funding plans that produce healthy employees and financial outcomes for clients. Her practice’s robust scope of services provides clients with analysis, implementation and optimization of on-site clinics. Polly frequently speaks at national employer-focused health and wellness events. She also hosts practice-based roundtable meetings attended by leading human resources and finance executives across the nation.

Erin Eason is a Senior Consultant of On-Site Clinic Services at CBIZ Benefits & Insurance Services, Inc. Erin joined CBIZ in 2013 as a consultant for onsite clinic services. She brings her unique clinical, operational and technical experience to the role. Erin assists clients in assessing the feasibility of implementing an onsite clinic through detailed data analysis. Leveraging her knowledge of healthcare trends and requirements, she makes recommendations regarding vendor selection. Throughout the implementation process, Erin utilizes her extensive ambulatory experience to ensure the goals of employers and the best interest of employees and their families are represented to create a quality, cost-effective environment of health and wellness.
