Workshop Session A:
Thursday, July 18, 2013 • 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.Assessing the Applicability of an On-Site Health Clinic for your Company and Determining the Competitive Advantage
Overall demand for on-site clinics is growing at a steady pace. Driving forces are still access to primary care, cost management, health improvement and absence management. More and more middle market employers interested in implementing and smaller locations are more popular. Ideally the clinics lend themselves to health coaching, disease prevention and behavioral change.
The company profile of those interested is changing. The “old rules” were 2,000 employees in a location, with an older workforce with considerable health issues, expenses per employee in excess of $8000, shortage of PCP’s or access problems. The “new rules” are any company interested in expanding health management services with employee concentration as low as 800 per location. Some topics to be examined include:
• Macro trends in on-site health
•The “perfect” on-site health prospect is changing
• Why consider on-site servicesABOUT THE WORKSHOP LEADER:
Paul Berger, MD is Senior Vice President & Chief Medical Officer at Aon Hewitt Consulting, where he has been since July 2009. With more than 30 years experience in the health care industry, Paul plays a vital role in overseeing the company’s clinical competencies and enhancing the depth of Aon Hewitt’s capabilities around clinical and strategic health care consulting. Prior to this Paul was Chief Medical Officer of SHPS for five years where he had oversight of the development and implementation of all clinical programs, including utilization management, case management, disease management, nurseline, wellness and disability management.Paul previously was a World Wide Partner in the health and benefits practice and national leader of the health and productivity management practice at Mercer Human Resource Consulting. During his 15 years with Mercer, Paul consulted with managed care programs on behalf of Fortune 500 companies interested in utilization review, case management and disease management. His emphasis has been on the evaluation of clinical quality management, all aspects of medical management, and predictive modeling. He has also served as medical director for a national HMO/PPO in Atlanta, where his responsibilities included directing the care management, performance improvement and provider relations functions.
Workshop Session B:
Friday, July 19, 2013 • 12:45 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.Utilizing On-Site Employee Health Clinics to Enhance Innovative Care Initiatives
Employers are considering many initiatives to improve care and reduce medical cost. High performance physician networks are on the list, as are primary care medical homes and accountable care organizations. Some employers are re-evaluating their disease and case management programs. Some are wondering about the use of their existing on-site clinics as they transition to high deductible health plans with health savings accounts. Employers considering onsite clinics, and those with established clinics, have questions about the use of performance guarantees to improve their return on investment.
The first half of this workshop will address the use of onsite health to enhance other initiatives. The second half will be reserved for questions about any of these issues, and general questions about establishing and managing a worksite health center.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP LEADER:
